The Ordinary General Meeting of MANU held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Samuel Raapoto High School (thank you for the welcome!). With a quorum reached at first blow – thanks to the members who came and to those who took the time to send their powers.
It was studious but in the same time very pleasant, thanks to the superb presentation of Thomas Ghestemme and the very clear explanations of our accountant.

The statutory obligations were fulfilled in 2017 by the continuation of our actions:

• propose, organize, implement or participate in field actions to improve the conservation status of endangered bird species
• make the population and the decision-makers aware to the natural and cultural value of the birds of Polynesia and the threats that weigh on them and their habitats
• support research actions for the knowledge of Polynesian birds
This year again the implementation of our actions was articulated around the 3 axes defined in our strategy:
• Prevent the disappearance of endangered birds and improve the conservation status of native birds in general
• Protect important sites and habitats for bird and biodiversity conservation
• Give men the means to act, for sustainable use of natural resources.

SOP intervened in 2017 in different schools for educational projects, in Tahiti and in Tubuai (as part of the 2017 Science Festival) and with students from the University of French Polynesia.
We participated in several Committee meetings and various institutional workshops (BEST workshops, DIREN invasive species management seminar, meeting with the French Agency for Biodiversity, Group Overseas IUCN, state of the environment with local authorities …)
Participative Management Group meetings (1 Tahiti, 1 Fatu Hiva) were organized.

In 2017, the SOP took part to several public events:

– Alternatiba at ISSEP, in March
– Reception of the Hokulea canoe at Pointe Venus, in April
– ONO’U Festival at the Museum of Street Art in Papeete, October
– Science Fair at the Territorial Assembly, in October
– Book Fair at the House of Culture, in November
– TEDx event at Pirae City Hall, in November

– At international level: BirdLife International, Pacific Invasives Initiative, Island Conservation…

Manu’s actions continued in 2017 with several programs led by our team.

The safeguarding of the Tahiti Monarch (‘Ōmāma’o – Pomarea nigra)
